Kidnappers who buried 85-yr-old woman alive after collecting N5m ransom arrested

The leader of the Enugu kidnap gang

A group of heartless men who kidnapped an 85-year-old woman, tortured and buried her alive, even after collecting the sum of N5 million as ransom from her family in Enugu State, have been arrested by the State Police Command.
While confessing how they carried out the dastardly act, the leader of the gang, Livinus Ude, an indigene of the woman's village of Enugu Omesi, said they tied her to a tree and left her in a thick forest while they went home to sleep every night for about a week while the family negotiated with them after they had initially made a demand of N20 million which later reduced to the N5 million they collected.
But instead of leaving the woman to reunite with her family, they went ahead to bury her alive so that she would not point them out as her abductors.
After their arrest by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the State Police Command, Ude and his gang led the police to the forest where they had buried the woman in a shallow grave and her decomposing remains were exhumed for a more befitting burial by her family while the suspects have been moved to the state police headquarters for proper investigation.
